LIFE 1010 General Biology

4 credit hours with lab, taught in the Fall semester

This course is intended for majors in the Life Sciences.  It provides a detailed introduction to

fundamental concepts of biology, including basic chemistry of living systems, cell structures

and functions, energy relations, genetics, molecular biology, ecology, population dynamics

          and evolutionary theory

NEUR/ZOO 5100 Structure and Function of the Human Nervous System

4 credit hours with lab, taught in the Spring Semester

This course is intended for graduate students in the Neuroscience Program and advanced

undergraduate students who are interested in understanding the structure and

interconnection of cells in the central nervous system and how structure gives rise to the

complex functions mediated by the nervous system.  The course content covers gross

anatomy of the brain, followed by detailed consideration of the functional significance of

divisions of the central nervous system

Dr. Prather also teaches these courses occasionally or as needed:

WWAMI Medical School  Fundamentals of Medical Science and Research

I teach several sessions of this course in which I cover membrane potentials, action potentials,

propagation of action potentials along axons, and activation of synaptic terminals to initiate

neurotransmitter release.  We cover basic cellular mechanisms as well as application to disease

         states.

ZOO 4100  Scientific Communication

Please contact me if you are interested in working together on your written and oral

          presentations

ZOO 4900  Independent Study in Neuroethology

This course is an excellent option for undergraduates who do projects in the lab to receive

academic credit for their training experience

ZOO 4971  Internship in Zoology and Physiology

This course provides undergraduate students an opportunity to receive academic credit for                   professional training experiences

HP 4975 or 4976  Honors Independent Study

This course is another excellent option to receive academic credit for research experiences

devoted to fulfilling the capstone project of the Honors Program

NASC 5110  Physical Science for Elementary, Middle, and High School Educators

This course is part of a three-year Masters program to educate teachers from across Wyoming

in specific content and pedagogical techniques.  This is taught as part of Dr. Prather's role as a

faculty member of the UW Science and Math Teaching Center (SMTC).

NEUR 5715  Neuroscience Seminar

This course is a seminar dedicated to helping students improve their ability to understand

science and communicate it effectively to both experts and a broad audience alike.

NEUR 5900  Practicum in College Teaching

This provides graduate students an opportunity to receive individualized mentoring and to

grow their expertise as a college level instructor
